3. Bioelectromagnetic therapy or Magnetic therapy:
Is the application of electromagnetic fields to the body to stimulate the nerves and
create a better blood flow to various parts of the body. In turn, this helps the organs
and glands to function better.
How does it work?
A. Traditional theory:
Magnetic Therapy itself is based upon the use of magnets on and around the
acupuncture points of the body. Applying Magnetic Therapy helps to build new cells
to rejuvenate the tissues of the body.
B. Scientific theory:
Practitioners claim that when electromagnetic frequencies or energy fields within the
body go out of balance, disease and illness occurs. They claim that these imbalances
disrupt the body's chemical makeup. By applying electromagnetic energy from
outside the body, usually with electronic devices, practitioners claim they can correct
the imbalances in the body.
There are two theories that are used to explain magnetic therapy on the base that
assume that Some types of illness and pain are associated with imbalances in these
biological electric and magnetic fields. Bioelectromagnetic therapy realigns the fields
to correct imbalances
There are numerous published theories regarding the possible medicinal value of
static magnets or electromagnetic fields, although high quality scientific research is
lacking.
Proposed mechanisms include:
1. Effects on blood vessels:
The first theory maintains that when magnets are applied to a painful area of the
body, all the cells in that area react to increase blood circulation;(improvements in
blood circulation, increases in oxygen content of the blood, alkalinization of
bodily fluids, decreases in blood vessel wall deposition of toxic materials or
cholesterol plaques, relaxation of blood vessel due to effects on cellular calcium-
channels).
