5. REINTRODUCING LOCAL SPECIES
• The scientific studies by the Tasik Chini Research Centre in
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia clearly show several
indicators of a more polluted freshwater lake. Flora and
fauna increasingly extinct and tourist arrival to Tasik Chini
also declining. So, the solution that can done is reintroducing
local species to attract the tourist back.
• Reintroducing local species that have been lost from parts of
our countryside can help to restore and reinvigorate Tasik
Chini’s biodiversity.
• Reintroducing is one type of ‘conservation translocation’.
Conservation translocations in Tasik Chini should involved
species such as Putitor mahseer (ikan kelah), Channa
micropeltes (ikan toman), Nelumbo nucifera (lotus),
Aponogeton undulates (green bulb plant) and others.
