Cross Complaining
In my career I have done a lot of work with people who are divorced or divorcing. When people are divorcing one person “complains,” and in their legal document they ask for “relief” which sounds like this:
“Hey my soon-to-be ex did the following 47 bad things to me and now I should get the house.”
The other person, fearing homelessness and poverty, cross complains:
“Oh, yeah...my my soon-to-be ex did 147 bad things to me and has some nerve asking for the house. I want the house.”
If you are wondering what happens to the house, what often happens is the judge orders the sale of it, and the proceeds of the sale of the house go to the attorneys and the hinancial experts who higure out how much the house is worth. Then, when the parties get their respective shares the professionals buy new beach houses and the people who are divorcing hind a rental apartment.
