Helen and Bob married at 3pm on Saturday, June 2nd, 1962 at Vineland United Church in
Vineland Station, Ontario. Helen’s Maid of Honour was Peggy Tait and the Bridesmaids were 37
neices Pat Cushnie and Kathy Kimberly and Bob’s sister, Mary Card. Bob’s Best Man was Stan
Hannaford, who was a close friend and a member of the top secret “TUTBWS” Society. The
Ushers were Dave Lamont (another close friend, who was at medical school at Western), Syd
Barton (Peggy’s fiancé) and Helen’s nephew, Ron Kimberley. The service was performed by
Reverend Harry Kay of Vineland United assisted by Reverend Stanley Kennedy of Beamsville.
Approximately 130 were in attendance, including many family members, friends and neighbors.
After the wedding formal photos were taken on the grounds of the Vineland Experimental Farm,
very near where Rittenhouse School had stood. The reception took place in the Church
basement meeting room. Bob remembers very little of that. (He didn't disclose why.)
The honeymoon took place by motor car (the couple’s ’57 Mercury Meteor) to a number of
exotic places (Aldershot, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario and Levering, Bay City in
Michigan) before returning to Vineland. Helen saved all of the soap packages (the beginning of
a 58 year tradition). Bob kept careful records noting that the trip involved 1,393 miles and a total
cost of $97.44. Nothing but the best for this couple! Following their return Helen and Bob then
motored back to Kingston to take up residence at 184 William Street, Kingston, Apartment #3.
"At the time I noted how right you both seemed for each other and the two of you proved that in
spades". Stan Hannaford.
