In June of 1971, the ’57 Meteor was showing its age and Bob and Helen purchased their first
brand new car, a 1971 2 door Ford Torino. This car eventually went to Saskatoon and prior to 57
leaving needed a “block heater” installed – something folks in Hamilton had never heard about.
The rest of 1971 was uneventful, although on New Year’s Eve Helen’s diary reads “to Dinsdales
about 900 pm (tobogganing – broke coccyx!)
At this point the family assumed that they would be in Hamilton for many years. However, during
early 1972, Dr. Lou Horlick, head of medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, sent a telegram
asking Bob to meet him at the Constellation Hotel at Toronto Airport. The result of that fateful
meeting was a U of S appointment and plans for another move of the Card family.
Later in 1972, significant events occurred. On November 4th, the Queen’s Nursing Science
Class of 1962 held their 10th reunion, organized by Helen and Judy Dinsdale, at Cedar Springs
Resort. The group photo then shows how happy Helen was at the time, her third child due in 6
weeks. Tragically, 11 days later Helen’s sister, Ruth, died unexpectedly following surgery.
