Ten – U – Two Bird Watchers’ Society
(TUTBWS)
n May 2023, I reunited with four friends in Burlington, Ontario for the 69th meeting of the Ten-U-Two Bird Watcher’s
ISociety. We founded this secret group of six in February 1954 as high school friends. Though one of our original
members, Keith, has passed away, and Ron was unable to attend, this reunion reminded us of the deep bonds forged during
our youth at Central High School. Some of the younger family, reading this years from now, may wonder what teenagers
did to pass the time when there were not smart phones and computers available. The TUTBWS held weekly meetings
where the time was passed by drinking lemonade, eating “Li’l Abner” potato chips, playing charades, and watching
George Gobel on TV (TV had just arrived in Canada at the time.) We also payed homage to our favorite bird (the yellow
bellied sapsucker). I realize that most of you don’t know of George Gobel who had a very dry sense of humour. I found
out that many of his shows are saved on YouTube. Have a look to see what we laughed at in that era.
