Tuberculosis wasn’t entirely unfamiliar to my family. My dad had reportedly been treated for a TB lesion back in the 1920s or

                 1930s. Treatment back then involved inducing an artificial pneumothorax—collapsing the lung to deprive the TB bacteria of


                 oxygen. The procedure sounded daunting, but it was effective, and he recovered.


                 Knowing this family history, my parents were vigilant about my treatment and recovery. Their support made all the difference
                 during those six months.
