Air Law

                1.6 Abnormal situations

                1.6.1 Interception of civil aircraft

Interception of civil aircraft (catching or intercepting) should be avoided

whenever possible. Normally, the purpose is only identification. However, it

may become necessary to lead you back to the planned flight path or away from

prohibited areas, restricted areas, or danger zones. It may also be necessary to
guide you down for a landing.

Normally, the intercepting aircraft will assume a position to the left of you and

                give visual instructions.

                You must immediately:

                    - Follow these instructions and, if applicable, respond to the visual signals.

                    - If possible, notify the relevant air traffic control unit.

                    - Attempt to establish two-way radio communication with the intercepting

aircraft or the unit in command of this aircraft by making a general call

on the emergency frequency 121.5 MHz.

                    - If you have a transponder, squawk 7700 mode A unless otherwise
directed. Further instructions can be found in VFG ENR 1.12.

It is required that you have a list of procedures related to interception in flight,

as described in BL. 5-61. On the next page, you will see the interception

procedures placed in two charts that you can print and take with you in the
                aircraft.
