1.9.3 Certification and rights - LAPL(A)

The certification and rights for the LAPL(A) (Light Aeroplane Pilot License) are

slightly different from those for the PPL(A).

LAPL is a European certification valid only in EASA member countries.

1.9.3.1 Certification – requirements for issuance

Requirements for the issuance of the LAPL(A) certificate:

Applicants must:

- Hold valid PPL(A) theory

- Hold a valid radio certificate – at least N-BEG

- Have a valid medical certificate – at least LAPL medical
- Be at least 17 years old

Once the above conditions are met and the Skill Test has been passed, the

LAPL(A) certificate can be issued.

Requirements before one can take the PPL(A) skill test:

- The applicant must be proficient in the aircraft type

- The applicant must have accumulated the minimum required flight time: at

least 30 hours as a pilot, of which:

o Maximum 5 hours may be in a simulator

o 10% of the flight time in a rudder-controlled UL (ultralight) or glider, or

motor-glider may be deducted (but not more than 10 hours in total)

1.9.3.2 Rights

The LAPL(A) certificate grants the right to fly SEP (Single Engine Piston) Land

aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight (TOW) of 2000 kg.

The rights apply to the type/class corresponding to the aircraft on which the

skill test is conducted.
