Flight performance and planning



                The glide distance will be the same!


                The best glide speed for the aircraft here is 55 knots.

















                The glide distance is the horizontal distance an aircraft moves while gliding. To

                achieve the longest distance, flaps should not be used.


                Conversely, if you want a shorter distance, flaps should be used to the extent that
                suits the distance.





                7.7.1.1    Glide ratio

                In  connection  with  gliding,  the  term  ‘glide  ratio’  also  exists.  The  glide  ratio  is

                determined by the ratio of lift to drag at a specific angle of attack.


                The glide ratio is found as the vertical distance to the terrain divided by the glide

                distance.




                The glide ratio for

                the aircraft here is

                therefore:

                500:1000 = 1:2





                A typical glide ratio for a motor aircraft is 1:10.

                This  means  that  if  you  are  at  3000  ft,  the  aircraft  can  glide  30,000  ft

                (corresponding to approx. 4.9 NM).
