3.6.8.8 Dangers of flying in poor visibility
Flying visibility refers to the visibility from an aircraft and ahead.
The danger of flying in poor visibility is:
- Firstly, that you may fly into something you cannot see.
- Secondly, that you no longer have a horizon to navigate by and risk spatial
disorientation.
Also, remember that in poor visibility, there is a tendency to overestimate
distances.
Objects are closer than you think!
Be aware of reduced visibility when:
- Temperature and dew point temperature are the same, or nearly
the same.
- Snow, drizzle or rain is reported.
- Fog, Mist or Haze is present.
- During inversions.
- During dust and sand blowing.
