                Dischargers  can  be  placed

                on  the  trailing  edge  of  a

                wing,  as  shown  in  the

                picture here.




                Static electricity can interfere with the electronic equipment onbord the aircraft.




                8.6.1.1   Lightning


                Statistics show that once for every 1000 flight hours, large aircraft are struck by
                lightning.





                The lightning typically enters an outer point on the aircraft, e.g. in the nose.




                The aircraft's fuselage can conduct the voltage from a lightning strike, so that the

                voltage runs in the outer skin and leaves

                the aircraft at the rear.

                There  are  often  wounds  where  the

                lightning enters and where it leaves the

                plane again.

                8.6.2    Electrical theory


                The purpose of this section is not to train you to be an electrical engineer, but to

                refresh  your  knowledge  from  the  time  when  you  had  physics  in  elementary
                school.
