                If you adjust your mixture to contain twice as much oxygen, approximately 40%,

                you will have the same oxygen pressure at 18,000 feet as at sea level.





                2.3.4.2     Oxygen deficiency at altitude

                When we talk about oxygen deficiency (hypoxia), 10,000 feet is the altitude at

                which we must start considering the consequences of oxygen deprivation.


                If you are a smoker and/or in poor physical condition, your starting altitude may
                be 4,000–5,000 feet instead of sea level!





                Hypoxia  is  a  condition  in  which  the  body  does  not  get  enough  oxygen  to

                maintain  normal  function.  At  altitudes  where  oxygen  levels  are  low,

                hemoglobin’s ability to bind and transport oxygen can be challenged—resulting
                in hypoxia.

                  The dangerous thing about oxygen deprivation is that as


                  it occurs, you lose the ability to recognize it!
