There are many different types of radios for airplanes. Here, we will start with

the type that we most often use at Midtjysk Flyveskole for training.

Our radio is solely for communication purposes.

Other types of radios may include NAV (navigation) and many other functions.

A requirement for being able to perform radio communication is that "the user

has thoroughly familiarized themselves with the use of the radio equipment."

The radio is equipped with intercom, and this comes into operation when the

radio is turned on using the ON button.

There is an active (ACT) frequency and a standby (STB) frequency. It is possible

to monitor the standby frequency, but if there is audio on the active frequency,

               it takes precedence.

This is definitely a good feature, as it allows the pilot to get a sense of what is

happening in the area before making calls on the frequency. Also, when flying

near an airport or an area, it is beneficial to listen in on the standby frequency to

stay informed about any activities in the vicinity.

The volume is adjusted using the ON button. Pressing the button disables noise

suppression, allowing even weak signals to be heard. This feature can be

particularly useful if one wishes to listen to a weak frequency (e.g., ATIS

               (Automatic Terminal Information Service)).
