Lesson 2

So where are we going to use the radio?

For explanation of this question, we recommend that you watch the video

               ”LUFTRUM 92” in preparation.

2.1 Separation of airspace in Copenhagen FIR

The airspace throughout Denmark (except Bornholm, Greenland and the Faroe

Islands) constitutes the Copenhagen FIR (Flight Information Region).

Here is a brief overview of the different types of airspace in Copenhagen FIR:

                  - C air space

in Copenhagen and Billund TMA (Terminal Areas). You must have
permission and a transponder with at least Mode C to fly in C airspace.

                  - D air space

in all control zones (CTR). You must have permission to fly in a control zone.

In all TMAs, except where there is C air space (ie Billund and Roskilde and

                     Copenhagen TMA).

                  - E air space

outside the TMA above 3500 ft, except over the North Sea. Above FL 95

there is the RMZ (Radio Mandatory Zone)

                  - G air space

outside TMA and CTR below 3500 ft, except over the North Sea where it

goes up to 20,000 ft. Note over the North Sea, RMZ above FL 95.

The next page shows a sketch of the Danish airspace:
