REGENERATING SHEERWATER
Woking Borough Council has obtained planning permission to regenerate Sheerwater, one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Surrey. The scheme comprises a £500 million mixed-use regeneration and is the Council’s largest and most important regeneration project to date.
The project involves the creation of over 1,000 high-quality new homes, leisure and retail facilities, open green spaces, improved transport links and a local centre with social, retail, recreation and community uses. DJB was selected to advise the Council on the use of Compulsory Purchase Powers and also to deal with the conveyancing of properties acquired by negotiation.
Our team is advising on the use of Compulsory Purchase Powers, land referencing, drafting and preparation of the
Statement of Reasons, drafting of the Order, planning issues and the conveyancing of over 80 properties obtained by negotiation to date.
In 2019, after signi cant revision to the planning permission in order to improve viability and increase the number of affordable houses delivered, the Council approved the release of £42 million for the rst phase of the scheme. In July they began preliminary works to build a new leisure centre, swimming pools and sports pitches.
As the rst building phase of the project gets under way, we look forward to continuing to support Woking Borough Council with their vision to improve people’s lives, create local opportunities and support communities to thrive.
