HEADMASTER’S LETTER
DEAR CASCIA COMMUNITY,
Thank you for your support.
As we march toward the close of another school year we hear about the struggles of public school funding in Oklahoma. I think it is important for all of us to realize an outstanding public school system is valuable and necessary to our city and entire state. Besides the obvious community need, there is no doubt that better public schools make private schools better simply because private schools have to offer a strong product to entice families to consider a private school. Keeping all the talk about nances in mind, I thought it might be interesting for you to read about our nances here at Cascia Hall.
First of all, we receive no state or federal money. Our money comes from tuition, but even tuition does not cover the expenses we have to run the school. We must raise another 20% of our nearly $8 million dollar budget with the help of our community. Major fundraisers like Christmas Walk and Celebrate Cascia provide a boost for “extras” not already identi ed in our budget and the Annual Fund provides a percentage as well. We also have an endowment that has grown to over $8 million dollars over the years. A portion of the interest generated by this endowment also provides a percentage of our budget need. As you can see, we rely on our parents, alumni, and community members to help us reach our budget goal each and every year.
So ... how are we doing this year? Actually we are doing very well. There is always room for more Annual Fund gifts as we close in on our goal (you didn’t really think I would miss an opportunity to put a plug in for the Annual Fund did you)? But, each year we nish in the black and this year I am happy to report we will be completely out of debt from past building projects. Our student numbers for next year are very encouraging with a wait list in our traditional incoming grades. Obviously, the number of student contracts helps the school meet its nancial needs.
As you can see, our success for a balanced budget comes from you. Though it seems terribly inadequate, I want to give a hearty thank you to each and every one of you. I appreciate the gift of being able to serve the Cascia Community for these past seven years. Much has been accomplished from your efforts.
God’s Peace,
Roger C. Carter Headmaster
