FROM THE PRIOR PROVINCIAL

DEAR FRIENDS OF THE AUGUSTINIANS,
He gave his all to Cascia Hall.
Many of the greatest leaders in the Augustinian community—including Friars, Af liates, and Board Members—have come from the student body of Cascia Hall. It is always our foremost goal that during the years our students spend at Cascia Hall, they are left with an indelible mark of Augustinian values to carry out into the world. One such student was the late Fr. Bill Perez, O.S.A, who came to Cascia Hall as a student in 1948, immigrating from his native Mexico City.
It was with a heavy heart that I received the news Fr. Bill had passed away in his room at Cascia Hall’s St. Augustine Monastery on February 11. Only last fall, I had gathered with the Cascia community to honor and celebrate the 60th anniversary of Fr. Bill’s Profession of Vows as an Augustinian. As we recalled that day, Fr. Bill’s 60 years were lled with dedicated service spread widely across the Midwest. Fr. Bill taught at his Cascia Hall alma mater from 1972 to 1988, before moving on to serve as a pastor in the Diocese of FortWorth,Texas. He returned to Cascia Hall in 1992, and would remain there, retiring in 2014. Cascia truly was Fr. Bill’s Life, Love, and Home. And it now carries his indelible mark for future generations.
While we continue to mourn the loss of this beloved Augustinian, we also look forward with hope to some exciting changes to the Augustinian Community of Cascia Hall. In July 2017, the Cascia Hall St. Augustine Monastery will be receiving a new Prior in Fr. Don Lewandowski O.S.A., who will be transferring from his position as Pastor at St. Jude Parish, New Lenox, IL. Br. Jack Hibbard, O.S.A. will be leaving to become Prior of our Health Care Community in Crown Point, Indiana.
Joining Fr. Don will be Br. Stephen Isley, O.S.A, who will be Father Stephen, following his ordination on June 17 in Chicago. This will be a return for Br. Stephen, having spent two pastoral years as a teacher at Cascia Hall from 2013-2015. As an undergraduate at The University of Tulsa, Br. Stephen rst experienced Augustinian community by visiting the nearby St.Augustine Monastery at Cascia Hall. I am con dent that these two will make a valuable and lasting impact for years to come!
May God Bless you and Cascia Hall,
Very Rev. Bernard C. Scianna, O.S.A., Ph.D. Prior Provincial of the Midwest Augustinians
Fr. Bill Perez, O.S.A.† ’52
