nor in the United States. Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and state
Del. Lee Carter were also in the race. Both Carroll Foy
         and McClellan endorsed McAuliffe.

McAuliffe, who served from 2014 to 2018, seemed to fit
that bill as a popular former governor who might have
run for a second consecutive term except that the Vir-
ginia Constitution prohibits governors from doing so. He
is also a phenomenal fundraiser, which will probably be
put to the test against Youngkin, a multimillionaire who
could shoot the most expensive gubernatorial race in
         the history of the commonwealth.
McAuliffe's decisive win over a diverse field sets up a
closely watched general election contest with Republi-
can businessman Glenn Youngkin, who has been en-
dorsed by former President Donald Trump.

McAuliffe criticized Youngkin, saying, “Youngkin is not a
reasonable Republican,” McAuliffe said, criticizing him
on his positions regarding abortion and gun control. Bangladeshi-American Democratic Caucus

         Texas).
                                                                       Terry McAuliffe for governor,

Hala Ayala Hala Ayala for lieutenant governor.,
                                                                     Mark Herring for Attorney General
Virginia is about to elect its first female lieutenant gov-
ernor in state history after Del. Hala Ayala won the File picture from 2013 Campaign
         Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.
Ayala defeated five other candidates, including Del. Sam
Rasoul. Ayala will now face Republican Winsome Sears,
the first Black woman to receive a major party’s en-
dorsement for statewide office in Virginia.

         Attorney General Mark Herring
Attorney General Mark Herring will seek a third term
from voters in November after beating back a strong
challenge from Norfolk Del. Jay Jones.
Herring's victory was a closely watched race among the
down-ballot contests in Tuesday's primary election. He
will face Republican state Del. Jason Miyares in the No-
         vember general election.
