Several years ago, I had an
idea while listening to an
Alice In Chains song. So
many of those trailblazing
artists from the Seattle area
A.K.A. The Emerald City, had
such a profound impact on my
early years. I wanted to pay
my respects and honor those
artists whose music spoke to
me, in a way no other style of
music ever has. So I grabbed
a pen and paper, and starting
writing the names of influen-
tial Seattle artists who have
since passed on. Three
names automatically came to
the forefront of my mind from
this genre: Andrew Wood,
Kurt Cobain, and Layne
Staley. While I did not know
them personally, the mes-
sages they delivered made me
feel as if I did. The idea stuck Kurt and Layne’s struggles,
with me for a while, but I
never really went any further
than listing their names
down. Every so often, I would
hear a song, and think of my
idea but just couldn’t figure
out the next step.
Then, in May of 2017, I was
