Say ublic events have been at the forefront of music
Prising from the “folk” as log as songs have been
a around.
This song, “Say A Prayer For Me,” is an attempt to
Prayer look at the NFL kneeling controversy (American
football) from the idea that two rights don’t make a
wrong. That is, it is right to respect our flag and also
right to work to insure that all have the same free-
For doms.
The verses are balanced, in that there are an equal
Me number of lines for both “sides” of the issue,
remembering that when the music stops, we are all
on the same side.
David Martin played his first paying gig over 50 years
ago, getting $50 for three songs at a church wedding.
That was a lot of money in 1969.
He played guitar around coffee houses, gave simple
guitar lessons, and accepted a job playing upright
bass in a bluegrass band having never played the up-
right bass.
He continued as a bass player for a number of years,
mostly touring around Texas, in bands playing
Western Swing, rock a billy, and older country tunes.
He has regained his amateur status as a musician,
and enjoys playing, writing, and the occasional gig
or open mic to test new songs. David plays guitar,
mandolin, and bass, and has been a member of BMI
since 1986.
