By J. B. Cozens
Tuesday, October 14, 2014
The Wilton High field hockey team scored two goals with under 10 minutes left to play to rally for a 2-1 win
over Norwalk on Tuesday at home. The Warriors (11-1-1) remained unbeaten in FCIAC play, at 9-0-1.
Wilton dominated the first half, with a 9-1 edge in penalty corners, but couldn’t finish on a number of golden
scoring chances, as Norwalk goalie Samantha Troetti (six saves) had a big half.
The Bears scored about eight minutes into the game when Alex Whalen tallied, on Norwalk’s lone corner of the
game. The first 20 minutes of the second half were evenly played, as the Warriors were unable to put any
pressure on Troetti. Finally, with 7:50 left, Wilton tied the game when Delaney Chase scored near the right post
on a deflection, with the assist going to Bridget Ward.
The Warriors scored just 80 seconds later, off another corner, as Caroline Ferro’s blast was knocked down by
Ward in front, with Jillian Mahon knocking the loose ball in to make it 2-1 with 6:30 left.
For the game, Wilton had an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, and 15-1 edge in corners. Amanda Hendry made one
save in goal for the Warriors. Norwalk dropped to 5-6-0-1 with the loss.
