Wilton Overcomes Norwalk
By John Nash
WILTON – Deirdre Hynes sensed her Wilton High School field hockey team wa about to learn a very baluable
lesson. The only question in the veteran coach’s mind was, “Which lesson would it be?” Trailing FCIAC rival
Norwalk by a goal with less than 10 minutes to play, the Warriors sprung to life down the stretch, tallying two
goals off of penalty corners to escape with a 2-1 win over the Bears at Fujitani Field.
“Worried? No. They’d have to learn their lesson,” said Hynes. “This is a couple of games now this has
happened to us. They had to pull it together in the last eight minutes to show we can do it in the post season.
That’s the biggest lesson.”
“Or, they could have learned a tougher lesson and let Norwalk walk away with it, which could have happened,”
Hynes added.
Wilton – which improved to 11-1-1 – has struggled offensively over the last week. In fact, the Warriors went
201 minutes and 47 seconds over the course of four games and scored just a single goal – the tally that gave
Wilton a 1-0 overtime win over Fairfield Warde. Trailing late against the Bears, the Warriors knew they had to
start digging deep.
