New Canaan Upsets Wilton in FCIAC Field
Hockey Semis
Tuesday, October 28, 2014
A goal on its first shot of the game turned out to be enough for the New Canaan field hockey team to upset top-
seed Wilton, 1-0, in the FCIAC semifinals on Tuesday night at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk.
New Canaan's Ellery Baran was able to get her stick on a pass from Elizabeth Miller and direct the ball past
Wilton goalie Amanda Hendry just 1:14 into the game.
The early goal held up despite constant territorial pressure from Wilton, which had 16 penalty corners in the
second half but struggled to create scoring chances.
Fourth-seed New Canaan (12-4-2) will now play second-seed Darien in the conference championship game on
Thursday at 7 at McMahon. Darien defeated third-seed Staples, 3-0, in the second semifinal on Tuesday.
Wilton (14-3-1) will now await the start of the Class M state tournament. The Warriors are the three-time
defending Class M champs.
