Knowledge and Attitude of Balinese Traditional Security Guards
INTRODUCTION
At the time of response to disasters and emergencies, the
priority is to help, support, and treat the victims; to save lives.
Balinese traditional security guards or Pecalang, has a role in
securing and bringing order to the village, both in daily life and
traditional or religious ceremonies in Bali, also in an
emergency condition.
“Increasing the community's assistance in first aid is
very important, which can increase the number of
survivors before the rescue or emergency medical
team arrives”
This Study aim to assess the current knowledge and
attitude in emergency and disaster preparedness among
Balinese traditional security guards (Pecalang).
METHODS
This is a descriptive study conducted using a self-reported
instrument through online and paper form, in one of the
traditional villages in Bali, Indonesia. A total sampling
technique was used
questionnaires were designed to outline the basic
principles of disaster management stages such as
mitigation, preparedness and response.
RESULTS
A total of 32 Balinese traditional security guards or Pecalang
responded to the questionnaire. All respondents were male with

aged range 35 th to 55 years old.

DISCUSSIONS CONCLUSIONS
The present study aimed to ascertain the current

knowledge and attitude among Balinese traditional security
guards. The findings indicated that the overall knowledge that the role of Pecalang can be contributed and optimal to
raise the level of emergency preparedness in a traditional
