March 12, 2020, it was the day that President Duterte had announced a partial lockdown of
Metro Manila that was later put into place on March 15. By the day after that, an Enhanced
Community Quarantine (ECQ) was imposed throughout the entire Luzon and its other
associated islands. This has resulted into a situation where travel and transportation has been
restricted, stay-at-home policies that had made people below the ages of 18 and above 65
remain indoors, and the closing of all non-essential private establishments were strictly
promulgated.
The ECQ and other level of Community Quarantines such as; GCQ (General Community
Quarantine), MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine) and MGCQ ( Modified
General Community Quarantine) were re-imposed multiple times during the pandemic at
different regions of the country. These were all implemented to limit the risk of the virus
spreading beyond further reach. It may have been done for the betterment of the people and
their families, yet it has not made it any easier for those who were left secluded behind
wooden doors and glass windows. These were the senior citizens and children who were
expected to simply adjust and follow rules without a quibble.
