VICTORIA BABYSHEVA Favourite Memory
Favorite memories: The best memories are talking with my
Start Date: October 10, 2006 wonderful colleagues, socializing, making plans for the
future and celebrating milestones with them.
I always remember one event that makes me proud to be a
part of St. Mike's team. I was particularly moved by an
exchange that I witnessed years ago between a resident and
young aboriginal women admitted to the Emergency
Department with a history of chronic alcohol abuse. She
grew up in poverty on a reserve and recently moved to
Toronto where she found herself awash in the big city. The
resident counselled the woman about her addiction and
compassionately discussed available ways for her to obtain
help. A couple of months later, I was thrilled to see that she
had taken the advice and followed through with finding
help in an aboriginal health center. She came for her follow-
up exam, full of joy and determined to stay sober. This
experience touched me to my core. Although I know that
not all stories have such happy endings, this experience
remains a testimony to how skills, compassion, and science
can bring a person back from a brick of destruction.
Milestone: Transferring to a Research Coordinator Position
and working with a fantastic IPBR team on diverse
evaluation projects
