Keeping Safe

      Universal Fall Precautions

Universal Fall Precautions are safety measures that must be used

to reduce the chance that someone will fall while at the hospital
for every patient/resident, every time, regardless of their fall

risk. There are some patients or residents that additionally may

have a bracelet on their wrist or a tag on their wheelchair to

indicate they have a high risk of falls.

      What is SAFE?

SAFE is an acronym that provides an easy way to remember the

      Universal Falls Precautions.
The SAFE acronym has been adapted for the role of Volunteers.

You will see the Clinical Staff version of the SAFE acronym on

printed information, such as posters on the units. Please
remember to use this Volunteer version of SAFE.

How can I help with SAFE?

As a Volunteer, here are some ways you can help patients stay

      SAFE to avoid falls
