Stabilization Ponds & Sludge Lagoons
Stabilization Pond Efficiency of Removal Math
The Efficiency of Removal is crucial in determining how well a Pond is working to treat wastewater. The
Efficiency Formula requires the influent BOD or TSS mg/L value, known as IN and the effluent BOD or TSS
data known as OUT. When multiplied by 100, the answer will be in percent.
Efficiency Formula
In – Out x 100 = % Removal
In
Example
A Shallow Stabilization Pond has a monthly influent flow average of 187 mg/L BOD and a monthly
effluent flow average of 11 mg/L. What is the efficiency of removal?
187 mg/L – 11 mg/L x 100 = 94.1%
187 mg/L
The Pond removed 94.1% of the BOD.
