Aeration Contact Time
Contact Time occurs only within the Aeration Basin.
Contact Time is defined as the time needed for microorganisms to adsorb
food (food that sticks to the outside of the cell wall).
Extended Aeration provides extended Contact Time. Microorganisms require
additional time to adsorb food in colder weather and less time in warmer
summer weather.
Let’s take a 430,100-gallon Aeration Basin and apply it to 2 different weather
and flow related scenarios to see if enough Contact Time is provided:
