Pumps and their Applications
An example of a one of the oldest pumps is an Archimedes or Screw Pump.
This pump is designed for moving extremely large volumes of water under a low
suction lift and low discharge head pressure.
As the screw turns, the veins of the screw move the water up the gradient to the
higher receiving channel.
These pumps are often used for high volume water demands. This type of pump
is simple and reliable, but requires a large footprint, with limited discharge head
capability (or height the water can be lifted).
