Advanced Nitrification
In Process Monitoring
In-Process Monitoring is a term we use to describe analysis that is utilized to
measure process performance but may not be part of our permit reporting
obligations. However, In-Process Monitoring is by no means less important than
permit monitoring reporting and compliance. In-Process Monitoring provides
insight to upstream performance, which contributes to our ability to measure
Efficiency of Removal.
Nitrification In-Process Monitoring could include, but not be limited to: F:M, pH,
Alkalinity, DO, OUR (Oxygen Uptake Rate) Temperature, MLSS, MLVSS,
Settleometer settling rate and SVI.
Though Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter are not easily viewed through a
microscope, the microscope will verify that the correct indicator organisms
(Stalked Ciliates) are dominating, indicating a healthy aerated community.
Note - Daily microscopic observation is essential for proactive process control.
