Introduction to Units cont.

               1. Mass: units of mass are used to measure the weight of an object. For example, when you step onto a scale,

you’re measuring your body’s mass or weight.

               2. Distance: units of distance are a measure of length/height or the amount of space between two objects. For

example, using a ruler to measure the diameter of a PVC pipe.

               3. Volume: units of volume are used to measure the capacity of a container to hold/store, or the amount of

space an object occupies in three-dimensions. For example, a storage tank’s capacity to hold water would be

measured as a unit of volume.

               4. Time: units of time are used to measure a duration or express a particular interval as time elapses. For

example, an hour is an interval of time.

               5. Temperature: as defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica, units of temperature are a measure of hotness or

coldness expressed in terms of an arbitrary scale (i.e., Fahrenheit). For example, body temperature.
