generally rule out extrinsic disease. Best results are obtained by
VetBooks.ir testing for individual allergens rather than groups of allergens. The
reasons for this poor correlation between direct IgE measurements
and in vivo methods such as skin testing probably reflect the
occurrence of intrinsic AD. Heavily parasitized dogs may have
elevated IgE levels, and this may result in false-positive serological
results. It is also possible that immunoglobulins of classes other
than IgE may contribute to the development of allergic dermatitis in
the dog. For these reasons, many veterinary dermatologists prefer
intradermal skin testing to serology.
