                                                  (a)

                 Fig. 10.1 (a) The typical
                 appearance of a severe multifocal
                 Aspergillus species fungal air
                 sacculitis in a parrot. Endoscopy
                 not only allows visualisation and
sampling, but can in some cases
                 allow the debridement or topical
                 application of antifungals in single
lesions. (b) Laparoscopic view of an
                 obstructive cholangiocystitis in a
guinea pig, an unusual differential (b)
                 for more common cystic ovaries
                 causing anorexia and palpable
                 abdominal masses in female
                 guinea pigs. Despites the patient’s
small size, at 1.1 kg, laparoscopy
                 results in excellent visualisation.
                 Care is needed, however, in
                 avoiding trauma to the large,
                 thin-walled caecum and large
                 intestine during entry. (c) Uterine
                 adenocarcinoma metastasis to the
                 peritoneum, diaphragm and liver
are evident in this rabbit. Brief
                 laparoscopy provides a useful
staging tool for prognostication in (c)
                 these cases.
