                           This exposes a thioester bond between a cysteine and a glutamine.
                           This bond breaks to form a reactive carbonyl group that enables the
                             molecule to bind covalently (and hence irreversibly) to target cell
                           surfaces. Removal of C3a also reveals the binding sites for FH and
                                                           FB.
