A  haematoma  is  an  accumulation  of  blood  that  collects  under  the  skin  like  a  giant  blood

        blister. It can develop from:

        •
             a blow, e.g. if a horse hits a jump (Figure 3.12)
        •    intramuscular injections given into the brisket (Figure 3.13)
        •    a surgical incision.
