Sudden onset of severe and sometimes non-weight-bearing lameness.
• Distension of the joint capsule (Figure 8.16)
• Heat over the joint.
• Swelling around the joint.
• Decreased range of movement of the joint.
• Pain on passive flexion and palpation of the joint.
• There may be a wound near the joint. If the wound is large and draining freely, there is
unlikely to be a build up of pressure within the joint and hence less lameness.
