In some horses, the spinous processes are too close to each other and may impinge
VetBooks.ir (touch) or override (Figures 12.20 and 12.21). The region most commonly affected is
between T12 and L2. Impingement occurs particularly in the caudal thoracic region where
the weight of the rider is concentrated and the spaces between the processes are narrowest.
As a result, the bone remodels and areas of increased and/or decreased bone density can be
seen on radiographs.
