GYNAECOLOGICAL EXAMINATION (Figure 19.9)

This includes:

• taking a swab from the clitoral fossa and sinuses

• inspection of the vulva, vagina and cervix (Figure 19.10)

• taking a swab from the uterus for bacterial culture and examination of the cells under the
microscope (Figure 19.11)

• rectal palpation and ultrasonographic examination of the uterus and ovaries (Figure
19.12) to check for any abnormalities and assess the stage of her oestrus cycle.
