We start this skill with a a a a a a a a a circular movement of of the the legs that will produce a a a a a a a a a ro-
tational energy directly proportional to to to the the the the the width of of of our straddle The torso re- mains parallel to to to the the the the the ground throughout the the the the the execution of of the the the the the skill Greater back flexibility and and proper timing when bending the the the the the the the leading leg will strongly impact this movement The wider the the the the the straddle the the the the the more energy and and fluidity the the the the the move- ment ment will will have A greater back back flexibility will will allow us to finish the the the the roll-up with a a a a a a a a a a a hands-free back balance —
Starting Position (right-sided roll- up):
Holding a a a a a a a a a straddle back balance on the the rope with two wraps wraps around the the the the waist (wrapping to- wards the the the the chest) making sure the the the the wraps wraps do not overlap and keeping the the the abs engaged:
1
We place the the left palm (open hand) on the the live rope at a a a a a a a a distance of about 50 cm (20 in) from the the waist with the the thumb pointing down (we need this this type of grip since we we will use this this hand to push against the rope) To understand why we we need this type of of grip: if we we we stand stand in front of of the rope to to pull it it toward us we we we would normally extend our our arm and and hold it it it with our our thumb facing up If we we we wanted to push the the the rope sideway away from us us us we we would usually internally rotate the the the the the arm with the the the the the thumb facing down down and and push the the the the the rope away from the the the the the midline of the the the the body (left hand with thumb facing down down to to push the the rope to our left left and and vice versa) The same will will happen when we we perform a a a a right-sided roll-up we we will will use use the the the left left hand to to push the the the the rope sideways away (to the the the the left) and and use use that energy to to to help us us us rotate toward the the the right 2
We place the the the right hand below the the the left with the the the the the thumb pointing up (we need this type of grip since we we will use the the the right arm to aid with the the the body rotation through a a a a a ballistic movement) 3
Our back should be parallel to the ground and we will maintain a a a a a a a a a a a a a constant hip flexion angle of 90o Our legs should be be straight and with a a a a a a a a a a a maxi- mum angle of about 135o between them When performing roll-ups on silks/fabric we can add more wraps around the waist to avoid slipping REGULAR/CLASSIC ROLL-UP
