ISS Academic Honesty Guidelines
Appendix 1
Specific procedures related to Academic Honesty for High School Students:
DP and DC (Grade 11 & 12):
1) Any student entering the IB Diploma (DP) or IB Diploma Course (DC) programme at ISS International School, as well as their parents/legal guardians, will be provided via ManageBac with access to the documents “General Regulations: Diploma Programme” and “Academic Honesty in the Diploma Programme”, published by the International Baccalaureate Organisation. In these documents the provisions with regards to academic malpractice and related consequences are outlined and it is the responsibility of both students and parents/legal guardians to familiarize themselves with that information.
2) The ISS Academic Honesty policy is enclosed in the enrolment documentation for students applying to enrol from Grade 9 - 11 at ISS International School.
3) Once enrolled, all students and their parents/legal guardians are asked to sign a pledge to maintaining academic honesty and to abiding by the school’s academic honesty policy. A copy of the signed document is kept on file in the school’s Records Office.
4) All High School students receive training with regards to appropriate academic referencing techniques and which academic referencing techniques to use at the beginning of each academic year, as well as at the start of the Extended Essay and Personal Project production process. This training is conducted in collaboration between the ISS Library staff, the DP Coordinator, IB MYP Coordinator and High School teaching staff.
5) A student’s academic work that is subject to external marking and/or moderation will be checked for authenticity by means of the ‘Turnitin’ plagiarism detection software programme.
6) Prior to the start of the Mock-Examinations and the final MYP and DP examinations, all students are provided with a copy of the official IB ‘Notice To Candidates’, that outlines logistical information with regards to abiding by the principles of academic honesty under exam conditions.
