Welcome to the Fall/Winter edition of SeniorLivingGuide.com. Our
printed edition as well as our website are designed to help you make the best real estate
decision as we all age gracefully. Whether you are considering living here in Virginia or review-
ing options in another part of the country, our printed guides along with our online versions can
help you make relevant decisions for yourself and other friends and family members. Check out
the lastest eBook online.
COVID-19 has changed our lives dramatically. We here at SeniorLivingGuide.com will continue
to distribute to select grocery stores throughout VA, and have now added direct mail to our
overall distribution to homeowners, 70 years plus, in the Hampton Roads and Central VA
markets. If you know someone who would like to receive a mailed copy, please let us know.
The second half of 2020 and into 2021 will continue to challenge us all. Consider these
thoughts when deciding on your future senior living needs.
Technology – with physical distancing guidelines in place, technology will be the best way to
engage with your loved ones in senior living. Technology enables communication with family
and friends and it will help restrict nonessential movement. Telehealth should be used too for
some doctor visits – a tablet (iPad, etc.) will serve well for this purpose.
Emotional Support and Trusted Leadership – Authenticity and transparency need to become
the norm for all senior living community owners and managers. Employees as well as the
residents need to be able to trust the leadership and feel that they are reliable. Leadership
needs to consistently communicate changes in processes and explain these changes in order
to keep residents and team members calm and safe.
Communication – Residents’ families need to be updated on a regular basis. Daily updates
can range from emails from the management to the families of loved ones to text messages
from the staff on safe social and virtual activities that your loved one participated in. Social
media and photos will tell the story and keep families engaged, connected and comforted.
As you make preparations and decisions for your future living needs, be sure to reach out
directly to senior communities and see what visitation policies they have in place. Many are
offering virtual tours, photos and floorplans on their websites during this time to help you make
the best choice for you or your loved ones.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those directly affected by COVID-19. We hope each of
you stay healthy, safe and well-informed.
All the best,
Nanette
