you can still see the stone mills and historic oven. Next, you could visit one of the amazingly
preserved private homes in Pompeii. At the House of the Tragic Poet, you could see the famous
entryway mosaic of “Cave Canem” or “Beware of the Dog.” The tour might finish with a visit to
one of the four Roman bath complexes of Pompeii.
What is so remarkable about the ruins of Pompeii is the incredibly complete, fresh, vivid and
intimate insight they give us into the daily life of a
Roman city at the height of the Roman Empire.
Frescoes shine a light on the goings-on of
everyday life, and preserved everywhere are
mundane details of how the estimated 17,000
inhabitants lived almost 2000 years ago.
Following your tour of Pompeii, continue with
your driver 1 hr to your accommodations in the
cliffside village of Ravello. Enjoy the magical
coastal views from your terrace. Welcome to the
Amalfi Coast.

Proposed Accommodations for 4 nights: Hotel Caruso, a former 11 -century palace, perched
on a clifftop overlooking the spectacular Amalfi Coast. The Caruso is one of the finest hotels in
the south of Italy.
Day 2: Wine & Cheese Amalfi Coast Style. We’ve planned a relaxing day today. There’s no
need to leave the mountains. In the morning, you’ll meet cheerful Biagio—the mozzarella
man—and operator of one of the few caseifici (cheese factories) within easy reach of the sea (his
availability is pending confirmation). Biagio will introduce you to local traditions of artisanal
cheese making and the phases of making mozzarella from scratch. This is a fun experience and
lasts less than an hour. If you like (and we hope you will), try your hand at making cheese. Enjoy
a tasting of freshly-made mozzarella. A light snack featuring other local cheeses, charcuterie and
wine is included (while it might be a bit early for wine, you might be in full vacation mode).
Midday, take private transfer 30 min past many jaw-dropping views to a family-run winery
located in the mountains. At Tenuta San Francesco in Tramonti, immerse yourself in the
centuries-old vineyards and enjoy a tour and tasting of their surprisingly broad range of wines
(and the obligatory grappa) along with a rustic lunch. Tours and tastings typically are led by a
family member. This is a wonderful experience and makes for a great day. You might be joined
by up to six other guests. Return to Ravello by private transfer mid-afternoon for the balance of
the day at leisure. Consider a late-afternoon aperitivo in the pretty village square-framed by
umbrella pines.
