Naples figures prominently in the rich gastronomic
history of Italy as the birthplace of modern pizza.
Although pizza was invented much earlier, it was
here in 1889 that an Italian chef created a tri-
colored pizza of tomatoes, local mozzarella cheese
and basil. Designed to represent il tricolore italiano
or the flag of Italy, the chef named it Pizza
Margherita in honor of the Queen consort of Italy,
Margherita of Savoy. We know just the spot for an
authentic Neapolitan pizza lunch (cost of lunch not
               included in your program).

While exploring this area, your guide can expose you to the city’s rich street food scene
including such treats as Sfogliatelle, Calzone Fritto and Arancini. Since you can’t explore 25
centuries of history in a lifetime, let alone a day, you can work with your guide to set priorities
               and create an unforgettable adventure.

We suggest an afternoon train around 2:00 p.m. 70 min to Rome. Upon arrival at Rome, you will
be met by one of our local drivers for the 15-20 min private transfer to your accommodations,
which are located near the Spanish Steps and the Villa Borghese, the city’s largest green space.

Proposed Accommodations for 3 nights: Hotel Eden, a legendary name in Roman hospitality
that recalls a bygone era. Thanks to a major refurbishment in 2016, The Eden will cement its
place once again as one of the top properties in Rome.

Day 6: Ancient Rome, a Private Tour. Meet Rachel, Alessio, Cecilia or another of our
handpicked Rome guides for a private half-
day tour of Ancient Rome. You will visit the
Forum, which was the center of social and
political activity in Ancient Rome, and the
Colosseum, which had a capacity of 50,000
spectators. You will also admire Constantine’s
Arch, one of the triumphal arches of Ancient
Rome. Additionally, you might see where
recent excavations on the Palatine Hill have
provided evidence that people might have
lived there since 1000 B.C. You’ll also visit
with your guide the fascinating Basilica of St.
Clement (San Clemente), an early Christian basilica dedicated to Pope St. Clement (d. 99 AD).
The church features a beautiful interior, but is especially notable for its three historical layers.
The 12th-century basilica is built on top of a well-preserved 4th-century church (with many
frescoes), which was built next to a 3rd-century Mithraic Temple. With your guide, you will
