Continue with Andrea and discover
where gondolas are made and
maintained, in one of the very few
squeri still operating in Venice.
Learn about one of the most
important and ancient works in the
island, where the secrets are passed
from father to son, generation to
generation. There is no space here
for machines or cheap modern
solutions: only strong arms and
hands, many different scents of
wood and the same tools that have
been used for centuries to create
one of the most beloved symbols of Venice. Any water taxis associated with today’s tour are not
included in your program.
Freshen up back at the hotel before reconnecting with Andrea this evening for a 3-hr Bacaro
walking tour. Everybody knows that in Venice there are no cars, but who knows what a bacaro
is? The fact that Venetians need to walk everywhere makes stopping in these old wine bars an
original social habit. Just a table or two, the tiny bacari—a Venetian institution—are not made
for sitting down and having a meal, but for enjoying a glass of wine and cicchetto (food
specialties in small portions, like tapas). Andrea holds a Master’s degree in food history and
culture from the University of Bologna (the oldest university in the world) and has a vast
knowledge of European wines, especially those of biodynamic and organic producers. With
Andrea, discover some of the best bacari in Venice and their stories, learn how the traditional
preparations are made and where they come from, and enjoy a good glass of wine or a spritz.
Savor this taste of the real Venice! (As food and beverage pricing is based on consumption, your
program excludes these costs.)
Proposed Accommodations for 3 Nights: The Gritti Palace. Recently restored to its original
