from the north of Italy, pizza and main courses, sweets, coffee and gelato. Historical commentary

               Proposed Accommodations: Hotel Eden

Day 8: On to Venice. Depart Rome this
morning by train 3.5 hrs to Venice. We’ve
included first-class train service along with a
private departure transfer in Rome. Enjoy a
               meet-and-greet by a hotel representative
upon arrival in Venice with porter assistance
and a private water taxi transfer directly to
your accommodations located on the Grand
Canal. Following lunch on your own, meet
Andrea, our guide for special Venetian
experiences, for a half-day tour to include
two very different experiences — a visit to a Venetian glass artisan and a visit to a squeri, a
boatyard where gondolas are made using the same methods employed for centuries.

In a stunning art gallery hidden in the most ancient area of Venice (on the main island instead of
the lagoon island of Murano), an
extraordinary glass master has gathered the
works of some of the most important
Venetian glass artists and artisans. This
glass master even invented a novel glass
blowing technique, the first to create such a
technique in the many centuries of glass
production in Venice. Take a deep breath
and dive into the highest expressions of
Murano and Venice glass art, getting to
know everything about this ancient and
precious production: the shapes and the colors, the different styles and techniques, today's
mistreatments and loss of identity with production in other lands—and most importantly, the
recognizable hand of the true artists.
