House structure
There are four houses at Headington Prep School.
Girls from Year 1 upwards can earn points for their allocated House for good behaviour, polite manners, hard work and demonstrating school values. Head Teacher Awards and Commendation Awards also earn points for individual houses. House points are collected each week throughout term and the winning house for each term receives a celebratory treat, for example, a house disco, summer tea party or movie time.
There are also inter-house competitions which take place throughout the year. These include Sport, Music and Art events, as well as a general knowledge quiz.
The House Board opposite the Dining Room displays the photos of the house captains and up-to-date running totals of house points.
Each half term there is a house assembly lead by the House Captains. Girls are asked to wear their house T-shirts and participate in a variety of activities within their “house families” (vertical groupings across year groups), to develop friendships across year groups. Special events during the year, such as the ‘Wellbeing Day’ are also run in “house families”.
Head Girls and House Captains
All the girls have an important role in the running of the School, from assisting the Librarian to feeding the insects in the Science Lab. It is considered a special privilege to be given the role of House Captain or Head Girl. Two House Captains per house retain their position for the whole year. Head Girls are chosen each term from Year 6 by the Head and the staff.
The Head Girls have the following additional responsibilities:
• Assisting in awards assemblies
• Making speeches on Open Days and Foundation Day
• Attending interviews with prospective teachers and inspectors
• Leading tours of the School
The House Captains are responsible for:
• Leading house assemblies every term
• Collecting and announcing house points to the School
• Acting as ambassadors for their respective House
