Digital strategy
The girls at Headington Prep have access to state-of-the-art computer hardware and software within a fully networked school environment including a secure wireless network and superfast access to the internet. ICT and Computing are fully embedded in every classroom via PCs, interactive whiteboards and class sets of Apple iPads and Chrome Books as well as a whole range of peripheral devices such as virtual reality with Google Expeditions kits.
Computing is taught to all pupils at Headington Prep by our specialist computing teacher and the girls have a dedicated lesson every week. During EYFS and Key Stage 1, the girls begin to hone their skills, knowledge and understanding of the concepts of Computer Science and are introduced to algorithms and coding. At Key Stage 2, they further develop their skills, moving from end users towards developing their own computer programs and games using Scratch, Python and many other online apps, including cloud technologies such as Google Apps for Education which includes the G-Suite of tools (ie Gmail, Drive and Classroom). More information about G-Suite is available online at https://edu.google.com/products/productivity-tools/.
Pupils are granted access to the school computer network via a personal log on and encouraged to send emails to their teachers. Additionally, all pupils and their parents have access to an online learning environment called E-hub which is used to share homework and other activities electronically with your daughter.
E-safety and cyber security play a pivotal role in your daughter’s life, so we take this very seriously spending time not just in computing lessons but also in the wider school community making pupils aware of all issues surrounding online activity such as the need to protect personal information. Therefore we ask you as parents or guardians to help us to be proactive in educating your daughter to stay safe online.
