other schools from around the UK. There were 55 regional rounds and around 1,200 teams took part in the earlier rounds of the challenge. Tackling demanding questions, activities such as crossnumbers, a relay race, and producing a poster on the topic of cellular automata, the girls raced against the clock, scoring full marks in two rounds and
extremely highly in the others.
Folio, showcasing some of Headington’s best creative writing, has been officially launched
d as an e-magazine. The magazine, titled Food for Thought, contains work from the whole
school community, from Year 2 up to the Upper Sixth. It was launched at a special event
coinciding with National Poetry Day where some of the contributors read aloud from their
r work. The first creative writing challenge was also launched, a 300 word poem or short
story on the theme of friendship. Head Girl Hannah Anson acted as Folio’s Editor-in- Chief while Joy Chow created and produced the stunning design work throughout.

HEDGES LAW ESSAY PRIZE
L6’s Eunice Chau is the latest Headington girl to win the prestigious Hedges Law Essay prize. She wrote about the legal obligations of the UK as a result of the migrant crisis and her prize is a week’s internship at the firm this summer.
FOYLE YOUNG POETS AWARD WINNER
Georgia MacFarlane, U4, was one of 6,000 poets who entered the Foyle Young Poets Award. In a sparkling ceremony at London’s South Bank Centre, her poem was one of just 85 to be commended and will now be published in an online anthology. Head of English Dr Stephen Burley said: “This is the most prestigious student poetry competition in the country and students who have been recognised have gone on to great careers as writers. The standard is exceptionally high
so I was thrilled that Georgia was one of the commended poets.”
